A hidden society of vampires—and the humans they love—are at the heart of this opening novel in a biting, all-original series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Nightwalkers saga.
Rafe DaSilva is an energy vampire, soaking up nourishment from the sun—and, only when necessary, drawing sweet sustenance from humans who are pure in body and spirit. As the right-hand man to his queen, Rafe is a key player at a historic peace summit in New York City, which will unite the vampire nations against a common threat the sycophants, who feed on humanity and kill indiscriminately. But Rafe’s fascination with a beautiful blond police detective may put everything at risk.
Detective Renee Holden has never worked a homicide quite like this. The victim has twin puncture wounds on his neck, and the only eyewitness swears she saw a vampire. Now’s definitely not the time to get distracted by a seductive stranger. But the suave, darkly austere, exotically handsome Rafe DaSilva is a hard man to deny, and as Renee falls under his spell, she also falls prey to his enemies. Desperate to protect her, Rafe lifts the veil on a shadow realm she can only visit—a world of intoxicating power, terrifying dangers, and forbidden pleasures.

Preach preach preach. Organic food, blah blah, clean living, blah blah, I'm looking for vampire romance, not a sermon on veganism and free range beef! I'm about to put this book down. So far, both main characters are insufferable and have NO chemistry. Very disappointed. UPDATE: tried to read on, but couldn't finish. The dialog is stilted and boring, the female lead is boring and buys into the supernatural world too easily. The "good" vampires are uppidy, preachy, and pillars of morality despite being human parasites. Ugh! The vampire lead has the personality of a lint trap. Reader bewareProduct details

Thirst An Energy Vampire Novel The Energy Vampires Book 1 edition by Jacquelyn Frank Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Not her best...possibly one of her worst. Could barely read it. Gave up and skipped pages, then even more pages.
Was barely worth my time. Sorry I spent hard earned money on this.
Her other books and series are FABULOUS!! Didn't even sound as if she actually wrote this.
If she did write this, she needs to rewrite it.
Just not very good. Interesting story outline but the characters never become real. The dialogue between Rafe and Alex is so stilted and dull, if the author was not telling us how fascinating they found each other, I would have thought this was an example of a really awful first date. Of course there were the required sex scenes and the over the top compliments praising the beauty of the heroine. These are chick books so the formula requires these, but the really good writers who also write paranormal romances manage to not need them. Or, if they do include them, they make them interesting enough you don't just skim over them to get back to the action.
Interesting new type of paranormal romance. Energy vampires. It was a little hard to get into at first, and this book was not one of Jacquelyn Frank's best. I found the dialog lacking something, especially between Rafe and Renee. They had some boring conversations. However, was a decent read, entertaining and unique. Definitely enjoyed it, but no where as much as the Nightwalker universe books.
I love the Nightwalker and Shadow series. This one is just blah. I may not even buy book two and three at all. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s almost like it’s written by a completely different author. Her books used to be an automatic buy, but after this series not so sure. I don’t really care about the characters, there felt like plot holes (even for a series), and it was a kinda annoying read. I got through it to get through it.
I gave this book 4 stars because I don't think its up to her usual level and because it is a new series that needed more explanation than usual. I think the series will b good but at this point in time its an introduction to a new species. In her other books u were familiar with species and didn't need to learn about them. Still a good story and I recommend it because her second in the series should be fantastic!
3.5 Stars
Interesting concept in that the vampires don't subsist on blood, but rather an individual's energy so bad habits negatively impact a vampire who feeds on them. I definitely liked that idea, and the fact that the sun is another source of energy for them. However, the conflict between healthy energy vamps and those who feed and ultimately kill humans isn't new, but the story still played out well. This isn't my favorite series from the author, and I'm on the fence as to if I'll continue reading them. Something about it just didn't do it for me which is why I rated it what I did.
This isn't a typical vampire story because these don't bite for blood but for energy. They drain a small amount of the persons life force leaving them tired and needing to sleep to recuperate. Renee is a human police detective and Rafe is a high ranking energy vampire. These two meet and face off against the members of an outlawed group. I had difficulties with the character of Renee. She is impulsive and reckless. Even knowing these vampires out class her in strength and abilities she continued to insist she can take them on. Deciding to recklessly go underground and use drugs to get close to the outlaws leadership. She gets furious when Rafe wants to keep her safe.
It is an interesting read and certainly the next books will be just as good.
